This PhD thesis in Geography is an educational research that aims to make contributions to the field of knowledge of geography teaching. The research proposal proposes to investigate the place occupied by the teaching of the concept of genocide and the territorial implications of this process and, consequently, the role of teaching geography in the construction of memory. It is based on the idea about the relevance of teaching based on key concepts that allow the presence of a transversal idea throughout a teaching sequence. This constitutes the key to provoke relevant and meaningful learning, which may contribute to students interpreting social life with its values and contradictions and also, the territorial contexts that explain it. The classroom becomes the space in which the teacher mediates between academic and school knowledge. For the selected issue, inquiring into academic studies about collective memory becomes the gateway and the path of citizen awareness building and enables the possibility of installing the practice of incorporating multiple approaches to the production of collective memory. From the changes that occur in education with the promulgation of Law No. 26206/2006 (National Education Law) and the curricular modifications that arise from it, questions are generated in the field of Geography teaching that They guide this research. The problem to be investigated focuses on analyzing the contributions of geography teaching to the understanding of the concept of genocide and the construction of collective memory. This process of inquiry, systematization and interpretation derives in the reflection regarding academic and school geography regarding the teaching of traumatic processes. From an interpretive perspective, as Imbernón (2002) suggests, analyze and understand educational situations to guide the improvement of educational and / or social practices. Analysis of national and provincial curricular materials of Secondary Education is carried out. Other secondary sources used are documents, whether bibliography, resolutions, laws, curricular materials, planning, textbooks, among others. This interpretation is deepened with interviews with secondary school teachers and key informants of the education system. That is why this research aims to investigate the role of teaching Geography in the face of the challenge of addressing this problem from social, cultural, political and ethical multidimensionality. In this sense, the genocides that occurred in the twentieth century are a territorial problem and, therefore, commit geographical researchers to address them. It is hoped to contribute to the field of Geography teaching with theoretical reflections, about the practice of teaching and with proposals that dialectically articulate theory and practice. It is intended to travel a path of dialogue between the relevant problems from the perspective of human rights, the production of Academic Geography and School Geography.es
