The river Sauce Chico, located in the southwest of Buenos Aires, Argentina, is originated in Sierra de la Ventana, Ventania orographic system, in the top part of the watershed, shaping an extensive basin of about 1595 km2. The river directly discharges in the Bahía Blanca estuary. The main economics sources of the area are agriculture and livestock activities as well as horticulture which depends on the river. The dynamic of the climate basin is typical of an extensive plain with a small slope, with climate variability and human induced climate change with a scare supervision. The present analysis was carried out in order to understand and improve our knowledge concerning to the dynamic and the relationship of the environmental factors which generate the degradation of the natural resources. The study involves physical, biological, and human aspects of the area. The objective of this thesis is to bring together an analysis of the hydrography of the river Sauce Chico at the date, considering the insights of the problems derived from the managing and use of the water resource, and provide development path more sustainable for the basin. From the best of our knowledge, there are virtually no researches at date related to this basin as analysis unit; therefore the present work attempts to make a contribution with the planning and management aspects. The results show a basin with trend close to the equilibrium, but with an erosive reactivation. The altimetric differences highlight the development of a drainage net subdendritic in the hill sistem, with slopes higher than 8 %. At the main plain level, two areas were found: one without external inflow water and the other with intermittent inflow and lagoons. In the schorre and slike, alluvial fan with flooded terrain was observed. The analysis of climate parameters showed insights of the climate change. In this sense, an ascent in the average equinoctial temperatures as well as in the annual averages during 1981-2000 was observed. The ombrothermic analysis indicated that between 1991-2000 climate changed towards a humid tropical one. The porposed methodology by Thornthwaite was realized to be the most properly one to reproduce the natural conditions. The hydric balance reported water excesses during 2002 and deficit during 2006. The hydrological dynamic showed the predominance of the infiltration process. The regime of the Sauce Chico river was classified as a simple power continental pluvial americano. The hydrographic-chemistry researches revealed changes in the low flow of the river with an increasing concentration of salt and nutrients during time of drought, because of improperly irrigation as much as for the own characteristics of the water and the soil. The above mentioned scheme contributes to the soil degradation, floods and to a lesser infiltration which yield to degradation de los soils and, in consequence, to the productive performance The Water Vulnerability index showed the medium and low basins as those of major vulnerability regarding to their net of drainage due to effects of natural processes or human activities. The analysis of the satellite images allow to identify areas of flooding in the average basin, water erosion and floods. The changes in the vegetation, their uses and coverage of the soil were associated to the climatic, topographic and edaphic conditions. The determination of the hydrological complexes soil-vegetation corroborated the hydrological dynamics and allowed to identify cartographically hydrological similar areas The journalistic analysis as well as the interviews reflected dissociation between the political aims and the stresses of the small and medium producers.en
